Scott Gottsch retires from Loup Power District

COLUMBUS — Scott Gottsch has retired from Loup Power District after 26 years of service.Gottsch joined Loup in 1998 as a Maintenance Man at the Genoa Headworks. In 2000, he was promoted to Carpenter/Utilityman on the Canal Crew based out of the Columbus Service Center.

Shop tax free (or less tax) this weekend

Want to save money on school supplies this year? Well, you will need to travel, but not that far. Iowa and Missouri have tax breaks this weekend (August 2nd through 4th). Iowa's annual sales tax holiday for clothing and footwear will take place Friday, August 2nd through Saturday, August 3rd.

Governor releases property tax plan details

LINCOLN — Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has announced some of the objectives for when state senators return to Lincoln for the special session beginning on July 25.“Our decades-long property tax crisis must be resolved,” Pillen said in a news release. “Not getting the job done is unacceptable.

Work to begin on US-183, north of Ansley

NORTH PLATTE — Weather permitting, work will begin July 15 on US-183, from reference post 89 to reference post 99, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Werner Construction of Hastings is the contractor for this project.

First West Nile case found in Nebraska

LINCOLN — The first reported human West Nile virus detection for the 2024 season has been found in the Douglas County Health District through the routine screening of blood donations.
