NCJ honored in newspaper contest

LINCOLN — The Nance County Journal was among the newspapers recognized Saturday night in the Nebraska Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.The contest awards capped a multi-day event where journalists from around the state of Nebraska gather to network and learn new tricks to the trade.

Steak dinner returns for 6th year

On Sunday, April 26, Mt Calvary Lutheran Church will be presenting its 6th annual steak dinner featuring a complete assortment of accompaniments to the community.The Nance County Event Center, located at the fairgrounds, will host the event.

FULLERTON — Nine teams were on hand on Saturday to help the Chapter AG PEO raise money for scholarships.Teams competed in Trivia Night, completing 10 rounds of 10 questions.

FULLERTON — Early voting has begun ahead of the May 12 primary election.Monday marked the first day that Nebraska residents could vote in person at their county courthouses.

Chamber kickoff is Saturday

FULLERTON — The Fullerton Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing-up for another big year.Residents are invited to the inaugural chamber kickoff event Saturday at the Eagles Club. Stop by from 4 to 7 p.m. to learn about the Chamber, enjoy a sloppy joe meal and visit with local vendors.

Fullerton, Twin River students earn medals at Speech State

KEARNEY — Nance County was well-represented at the State Speech meet.On Saturday, Fullerton’s Everett Gleason and Lylla Sabata competed in the Class D Speech Competition. Sabata was the runner-up in Persuasive Speaking and finished fifth in Extemporaneous Speaking.

Water restrictions still in effect

FULLERTON — As the weather gets nicer, the city of Fullerton wants to remind residents that water restrictions are still in effect.“Just a reminder that watering restrictions are still in force this year,” April Sack, deputy clerk and ordinance official with the city of Fullerton, said.

Alda woman dies in Sunday accident

A 54-year-old Alda woman died on Sunday after her motorcycle struck a deer on Highway 22 north of Fullerton.Emergency responders were called to the scene at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday after a deer ran across the highway and struck the motorcycle that Penny Earl, 54, of Alda, was driving.
