Ten years ago Dec. 18, 2013 Nance County Assessor Sandra Bialas retired with an open house. She had been working in the office since 1986 and had been assessor since November of 2012. Firefighters from Fullerton, Belgrade and Palmer battled a blaze in the freezing cold.

Birth: Wells Kenneth Carson

Wells Kenneth Carson, a son, was born Dec. 1, 2023 to Morgan and Ian Carson, Edmond Oklahoma. At birth he weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces. He is joined at home by big sister, Charlotte.

Birth: Judd Avery Bialas

To Zach and Meagan (Sundberg) Bialas of Fullerton, a son, Judd Avery, was born Nov. 16, 2023. Judd is welcomed home by siblings, Sawyer, Camden and Tatum. Grandparents are Jeff and Denise Sundberg of Clarks, Tom Bialas of Fullerton and Becky Paddock of Central City.

Thanksgiving Day has come and gone. “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” sales are history. By the time you read this, my very tolerant hubby will have patiently watched several Hallmark Christmas movies with me. All these are signs that Christmas is coming!

Ten years ago Dec. 11, 2013 A number of area groups received grants from the Nance County Development Agency. Groups include Genoa Medical Facilities, the Nance County Historical Society, Fullerton High School students for a mural and the Nance County Veterans Memorial.

Nancy’s Cookbook: Green Chile Cheese Squares & Traditional Fresh Cranberry Sauce

Green Chile Cheese Squares 1 stick butter 10 eggs, slightly beaten ½ cup flour 1 teaspoon baking powder ½ teaspoon salt 1 cup diced green chiles (2-3 cans) 1 pint small curd cottage cheese 1 lb. shredded cheddar and Monterey jack cheese Preheat oven to 400*. Melt butter and cool slightly.

State Senator Lippincott speaks in Stromsburg

Senator Loren Lippincott visited Stromsburg at the invitation of the Polk County Republicans. He talked about what makes America great. He mentioned other countries are following the model of our constitution which has stood for almost 250 years.

Ten years ago Dec. 4, 2013 Kassidy Bremer of Fullerton and her heifer won the Reserve Grand Champion Hereford Breeding Heifer title at the 29th annual Northeast Community College Livestock Steer and Heifer Classic. The firearm deer harvest was down 21 percent compared to 2012.
