Note: The story below is one of many “Minnesota memories” from the twenty-some years I spent in the land of 10,000 lakes and a zillion mosquitoes. My parents had just arrived at my house in east-central Minnesota after a five-hour trip. I’d spent the day teaching first graders.

Journal Rewind

Ten years ago Sept. 25, 2013 Makenzie Lesiak and Kurtis Knopik were crowned Homecoming Queen & King. The Fullerton Marching Band marched on the bricks at Kearney in the Band Day Parade. The annual event is held in conjunction with homecoming at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Ten years ago Sept. 18, 2013 Fullerton was gearing up for Homecoming. The royal court included Mackenzie Lesiak, Jolene Shotkowski, Ellie Lesiak, Kelly Steelson, Colin Nathan, Ethan Shotkowski, Kurtis Knopik and Jonathan Tilson. Coronation was the next weekend.

National Indoor Plant Week

I recently learned that the third week of each September has been designated National Indoor Plant Week. If you were to visit my house, you would sense a bit of irony to that event occurring now, because many of my houseplants are currently “on vacation.” Yes, you read that correctly.

Births

Cody Kutschkau and Michelle (Kula) Kutschkau a daughter, Kora Lou Ann Kutschkau was born August 26, 2023 at Boone County Health Center at 8:07 am weighing 7 pounds and 8 ounces measuring 21 inches long. She is welcomed home by her 3 big brothers Karter, Kolyn, and Kreyton.

Piecin’ Pals met recently

The Piecin’ Pals Quilt Guild met Wednesday, Aug. 2 at Calico Annie’s Quilt Shop in Fullerton. Annie showed us quilts, fabric and patterns and demonstrated the folded corner ruler. The quilters enjoyed the opportunity to shop after the meeting.

Area genealogical group to meet

The Boone-Nance County Genealogical Society will hold a regular meeting on September 11, 2023 at the St. Edward Public Library at 302 Beaver Street, St. Edward, Nebraska at 2:00 p.m.

Red Wagon Parade set for Friday

FULLERTON — The Warriors are ready for Homecoming. The Red Wagon Parade and Pep Rally down Main Street will be at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8. Fullerton will take on Twin River at 7 p.m. on Friday for the Homecoming Game. The festivities will begin around 3 p.m.
